1. Day: 18’403 km or 60’377’297 feet away from home

Well, we have arrived! With tablets, movies, books and photography tutorials the travel time of 32 hours went by quiet fast, except for the 9 hour wait time in the airport in Hong Kong. Now we have arrived in Auckland and travelled to our first destination: Paihia.

The Bay of Islands encompasses 144 islands between Cape Brett and the Purerua Peninsula and includes the boutique towns of Opua, Paihia, Russell and Kerikeri.

And the weather at Paihia for the next two days is also not bad. ;)

Just one quick side note. ‘Rollover' is not insured by the car rental company. I would’ve never thought this was an issue, but as soon as we were on the highway, we saw a big accident where exactly that happened – so be careful!

Oh, and I almost forgot. Just saw my first Kiwi today. It wasn’t shy at all.

So now let’s get out and shoot some stars. I’m already happy that I managed to do the first post today. Hopefully I will be able to do it tomorrow too. Tomorrow we are visiting the most norhtwestern point of NZ – Cape Reinga.

And here are some impressions from today (unedited):

  1. Glad to hear you made it safely... Wow; converting from metric -- 11,435 miles from home... is this the furthest you've ever been from home? That's an impressive distance to cover.
Looking forward to the blog & images; like that bird-in-tree, and the longer exposure headlights image!

  2. Hi Jan,
    looks good, take care!
I'm looking forward to read your daily blog, thirst thing in the morning. Much more interesting for me than the edoras blog ;-)
    Have fun!
    Regards, Beni
